Course Description
FICE is pleased to offer a three-day seminar that teaches how to design safe roadsides, as presented in the 2006 AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, the Florida DOT Plans Preparation Manual and the Florida Design Standards. This course has been recently updated to reflect the best design practice throughout the country as well as here in Florida. Topics include clear zones, roadside barrier design, median barriers, breakaway devices, bridge rails and transitions, crash cushions, economic analysis, roadside safety in urban areas and work zone applications of roadside design. Several crash test videos graphically illustrate design principles. Real-world design workshops focus on practical applications. Students will be provided the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, extracts from the Florida DOT PPM and Design Standards, and a student notebook. This course will be useful for new and experienced designers and CEI engineers.
