The FES | ACEC Florida Professional Mentorship Program brings engineering students and experienced professionals together for meaningful conversations, career guidance and professional development.
Through one-on-one mentorship, students gain a firsthand perspective on the engineering profession while building connections with professionals who can help them navigate the transition from college to career. Mentors have the opportunity to share their experience, give back to the profession and help shape the next generation of engineers.

For Mentors
Are you an engineering professional interested in investing in the future of the profession? As a mentor, you can:
- Share your career experience, knowledge and lessons learned
- Provide practical advice on career preparation and workplace expectations
- Encourage the development of professionalism, leadership and communication skills
- Give back to the engineering community by helping prepare future engineers
What to Expect
The program takes place during the fall semester, October through December. Mentors and students are expected to connect at least three times during the semester, with meetings scheduled at mutually convenient times during regular business hours.
Meetings can take place virtually, by phone, or in person.
The conversations are designed to be informal, meaningful, and focused on the student’s professional development. Topics may include:
- Getting to Know Each Other
Start by learning about each other’s experiences, including what inspired the student to pursue engineering and the mentor’s path into the profession. - Career Preparation
Discuss resumes, interviews, job fairs, networking and other ways students can prepare for their transition into the engineering workforce. - Professional Development
Explore workplace expectations, communication and soft skills, time management, work-life balance, leadership and the differences between managing and leading.
