Florida’s Next Generation of Engineers Receive $36,000 in Florida Engineering Society Scholarships
TALLAHASSEE, Fla (July 2, 2025) — The Florida Engineering Society (FES) has awarded $36,000 in scholarships to recent Florida high school graduates and continuing university students who are pursuing careers as the next generation of unique and innovative engineers.
Twelve (12) students from across Florida were selected to receive the scholarships, which are administered through the FES and Florida Engineering Foundation. Among the recipients are six recent high school graduates, and six continuing university students.
“Supporting Florida’s future generation of engineers will help ensure the profession continues to design and shape Florida’s future,” said Allen Douglas, Executive Director, Florida Engineering Society. “We’re proud to support, inspire and encourage the pursuit of an education focused on engineering.”
The 2025 scholarship recipients (with photos) include:
High School Graduates ($3,000 per student)
- Alessandro Gregori, School for Advanced Studies Wolfson, Miami
- M. Umair Kazi, Suncoast Community High School, Wellington
- Simon Schwartz, Vero Beach High School, Vero Beach
- Lucas Schwerdtfeger, Jensen Beach High School, Jensen Beach
- Jose Zequeira, Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, Miami
- Anthony Corrales Zapata, Winter Haven High School, Winter Haven
Continuing University Students ($3,000 per student)
- Alyssa Collier, University of Florida, also recipient of the Raymond W. Miller, PE Scholarship
- Trevor Gross, University of Florida, also recipient of the Richard B. Gassett, PE Scholarship
- Nicholas Kottas, University of Florida
- Mikala Furiato, Florida Polytechnic University
- Abdullah Naveed, Florida International University
- Stacy Pham, University of Florida
Additionally, four college students were the recipients of endowed scholarships ($1,000 each). Those include:
- Samantha Long, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Recipient of the David F. Ludovici Scholarship
- Alyson Smyth, Florida Polytechnic University, Recipient of the Henn Rebane Scholarship
- Adam Chase-Azzaoui, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Recipient of the Eric Primavera Memorial Scholarship
- Abigail Johnson, University of Florida, Recipient of the Raymond W. Miller, PE and Alice E. Miller Scholarship
