Northwest Florida middle school mathletes compete at MATHCOUNTS Competition
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Middle school students from Northwest Florida put their math skills to the test at the MATHCOUNTS Competition on Saturday.
The competition was held at the Downtown Pensacola Library and was hosted by the Florida Engineering Society.
The mathletes were able to compete both individually and as part of a team.
Daniel Corliss, President of the Northwest Florida Engineer Society, says they hope to show kids that math can be fun.
“We’re trying to encourage middle school students to just continue to be excited about math,” Corliss said. “So we make it fun for them. And of course the math is fun and we get some great sponsors to give away goodies to the kids as well.”
Winners of this competition will move on to compete with other kids from across the state in Orlando.
