A Message From FES President Dr. Charles Davis
Dear fellow FES members,
I hope that each of you had a wonderful time and were able to celebrate Women’s History Month, MATHCOUNTS®, and PE Legislative Days in March.
March Recap
Since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamation designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” The National Women’s History Alliance selects and publishes the yearly theme. The theme for Women’s History Month 2025 is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” The theme emphasizes the impact of women educators, mentors, and leaders who influenced our values and motivated future generations. The theme also acknowledges the essential role women play in shaping minds and motivating transformative action, spanning from classrooms to boardrooms and from grassroots movements to global initiatives.
On March 14th, we hosted the Florida MATHCOUNTS State Competition at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club, and competition program that promotes mathematical achievement through grassroots involvement in every US State and territory. It heightens student interest in mathematics by making math challenging and exciting. The event hosted 44 teams and 221 Mathletes®, with the winning team awarded to The Frazer School.

Professional Engineer Legislative Days
The Florida Capitol welcomed lawmakers back to Tallahassee for the 2025 Legislative Session. Florida’s professional engineers walked through the corridors of the Capitol on March 18-19. More than 160 engineers from across the state engaged with almost half of the 160 legislative offices to convey our message of public safety and welfare to our elected officials.
This distinctive opportunity enables engineers to engage directly with lawmakers from their region, providing a platform to express and promote concerns that are crucial to the engineering sector. The in-person discussions enable legislators to gain direct knowledge of the progress and obstacles within our discipline, fostering a deeper understanding of the ongoing issues affecting the engineering profession. Engineers demonstrated their support by getting involved and providing assurance that our contributions influence decisions that shape our profession and quality of life. Collectively, as engineers, we possess the ability to exchange knowledge and offer expertise, assisting lawmakers in developing and enacting legislation that represents the most beneficial choices for our vibrant and progressive state.
A highlighted moment of the week was a meeting with Representative Anna V. Eskamani, Ph.D. to introduce our group of professional engineers in the district she represents and have an opportunity to discuss the bills she has been involved with, both related to engineering and non-engineering related to converse about current roadway engineering projects in the Orlando area.

Annual Conference Engineering School Receptions
The Engineering School Receptions at the FES|ACEC Florida Annual Conference provide a platform for universities and colleges across Florida to showcase their engineering programs, connect with industry leaders, and engage with alumni and students. We are seeking donations to help offset expenses for these engineering programs and ensure strong representation from all participating schools. Your support will also help bring faculty from all universities and colleges to these receptions, where they can promote their engineering programs and strengthen industry-academic partnerships.
