A Message From FES President Dr. Charles Davis
Dear fellow FES members,
I hope the beginning of summer is going well for you. It’s not too hot yet, gardens are overflowing with flowers, and school is out for the summer. Yes, we are discussing the delightful days of June, and we want to enjoy every moment of the sixth month, ideally while enjoying a mason jar of iced tea on the porch, as June 10 is, after all, National Iced Tea Day. Are there any additional June holidays?
Of course, the main holidays in June are Father’s Day on the third Sunday (the 15th this year) and the federal holiday Juneteenth (the 19th).
I want to remind everyone, as our fiscal year ends, to rejuvenate, take care of ourselves, and enjoy life to the fullest. Like engineering, relaxation and recharge are essential for preserving and enhancing systems in life.
As we invest in the future of engineering, I ask you to consider supporting our FES Student Chapters. Your financial assistance will ensure these student-led groups have the resources they need to thrive by helping to:
- Fund guest speakers & expert panels.\
- Organize hands-on workshops & networking events.
- Sponsor industry site visits & real-world learning experiences.
- Support student-led research initiatives.
As a donor, you will be recognized on our website, acknowledged at student chapter events, and receive a personalized thank-you letter from the students whose futures you are helping to shape. Learn more about one of our Student Chapters by clicking here.
Additionally, we are seeking donations to support the Engineering School Alumni Receptions at the FES|ACEC Florida Annual Conference in July. These receptions provide a platform for universities and colleges across Florida to showcase their engineering programs, connect with industry leaders, and engage with alumni and students. We are seeking donations to help offset expenses for these engineering programs and ensure strong representation from all participating schools. Your support will also help bring faculty from all universities and colleges to these receptions, where they can promote their engineering programs and strengthen industry-academic partnerships.
As a friendly reminder, I hope to see all of you at our FES | ACEC Florida Annual Conference, taking place at the JW Marriott in Marco Island from July 30 to August 2. The conference offers us the opportunity to meet qualified engineers from across the state, learn about professional group gatherings, social networking, vendor contacts, product reviews, and ongoing education. Educational sessions cover a range of topics, including technical advancements, project case studies, leadership, and professional development.
Sincerely,
Charles W. Davis, Ph.D., SSGB | Associate Professor
