A Message From FES President Ronald Colas
Dear FES members,
At the beginning of my tenure, I had planned to discuss the goals for the upcoming year in my monthly communications. We will begin that series in October. This month, I would like to pause to reflect on the overwhelming support of our community to a vital member who has recently experienced an unexpected loss.
In early August, Miles Glass, husband of our beloved Director of Events Meridith Glass, passed away suddenly. As we continue to process this tragedy, I want to express how proud I am of the FES members who have come together to respond to and outpour their support for Meridith and her family.
Meridith has been an integral part of the FES and ACEC Florida team for more than five years. She plays a vital role in the success of FES and ACEC Florida, and we hope you’ll join us in supporting her and her family.
In my first communication as FES President, I explained that we must represent our members and be a guiding light in our communities. This applies not only to professional support but also to personal support in times of devastation. This inherent compassion is woven into the fabric of our organization’s purpose. FES and ACEC Florida leadership and members have stepped up to demonstrate these values.
Board leadership of both organizations established a GoFundMe account to help offset the expenses to bring Meridith some peace of mind and get her back on her feet. Since the GoFundMe was founded, members have exceeded the $100,000 goal to provide stability and security for Meredith and her family. Thank you to those who have contributed to this effort. I encourage and remind our community that the need for support does not end after the first few weeks and months following a tragedy; it is an ongoing process.
