What is MATHCOUNTS?

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club, and competition program that promotes mathematic achievement through grassroots involvement in every US State and territory. It heightens student interest in mathematics by making math challenging and exciting. It introduces students to STEM careers through contacts with engineers and other professionals who serve as volunteers. More than 17,000 volunteers participate annually to coach students and conduct competitions.

In Florida, participating middle schools compete individually or as part of a team in one of the nineteen FES Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competitions held in February. FES Chapters, in turn, send their winning teams and individuals to the State competition held in March.

How is MATHCOUNTS funded?

The Florida Engineering Foundation (FEF), in conjunction with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and generous grants, fund the 2023-2024 Florida MATHCOUNTS program. FEF’s mission is to promote and enhance engineering education in Florida to position our state as a technological leader in the global economy.

In addition to supporting MATHCOUNTS®, FEF provides college scholarships and STEM grants for K-12 programs, supports student chapter programs at Florida public universities and colleges, teams up with ASCE to support their Engineering Encounters Bridge Design contest, supports the ACE Mentoring program, Student Astronaut Challenge, First Robotics competition, and Inspire program.

Visit the National MATHCOUNTS® website, the MATHCOUNTS® Competition Series, or the National Math Club for more unique programs designed for middle school teachers and their students.
